Alison Hammond caused a stir on This Morning after she called Prince Harry 'babes' to his face during a live segment. The ITV show aired on Friday, July 10, with presenters Dermot O'Leary and Angela Scanlon in the studio, while Hammond was in Birmingham for the countdown to the Invictus Games.
Awkward Encounter with Prince Harry
Founded by Prince Harry, the Invictus Games is a global sporting competition for wounded, injured, or ill military personnel and veterans, first held in 2014. The name 'Invictus' means 'unconquered' in Latin, symbolizing the resilience of participants. During the interview, Hammond managed to steal a hug from the prince when he spotted her, and she referred to him as 'babes,' leaving viewers unimpressed.
Viewer Reactions on Social Media
Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts. One viewer said: 'I'm just waiting for her to call him "Babes". She didn't disappoint.' Another fumed: 'Alison, what on God's Earth are you doing? Absolutely embarrassing behaviour! Are you 6 years old?!' A third wrote: 'What a car crash and a bloody noise.' A fourth added: 'Hammond....just an embarrassment.'
However, some viewers enjoyed the interaction. One wrote: 'Howling at Alison. You go girl.' Another added: 'Harry always has some spare time for Alison.'
Rival Show Takes Summer Break
Prince Harry's appearance came as rival daytime show Morning Live announced a summer break. Host Gethin Jones revealed at the start of the live BBC broadcast that the show would not return for some time. From next week, the slot will be filled by episodes of Animal Park, airing after BBC Breakfast from 9.30am to 10.15am. The documentary programme will also air from Monday, July 20, with Kate Humble and Ben Fogle marking 25 years of Animal Park.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
