Shona Searson, a familiar face on Channel 5's The Yorkshire Vet, gave viewers a rare glimpse into her private life when her wedding to Royal Marine husband James was documented in a special episode. The couple exchanged vows in October 2025 in an outdoor garden ceremony at their Yorkshire home, surrounded by their beloved pets and livestock.
Wedding Interrupted by Emergency Call
True to her demanding profession, Shona's wedding preparations were interrupted by a late-night emergency call to assist a pregnant cow giving birth. After tending to the expectant cow, she swapped her wellies and waterproofs for a lace bridal gown and made her way down the aisle surrounded by loved ones.
The pair exchanged rings atop a hill, moments before sharing a sweet kiss. Shona and James then rounded off their memorable day by firing farming guns into the air.
Reactions and Touching Moments
"It's just been absolutely brilliant. Everything's worked out really well," a thrilled Shona remarked after the ceremony. "The weather's held out. We can see the view. The animals were involved. Yeah, I'm just... I'm really happy."
Following traditional food and a quirky round of "poo bingo", Shona was visibly moved as her new husband delivered his speech. "I'm lucky to have fallen in love with my best friend and I have the privilege of being able to spend the rest of our lives together," James said in a touching moment.
Career and Recent Yorkshire Vet Episode
Prior to making her Yorkshire Vet debut, Shona earned a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Liverpool in 2012. She has served as clinical director at Donaldson's Vets since 2012.
The 23rd season of The Yorkshire Vet returned earlier this month, kicking off with an emotional special that aired on Channel 5 on August 13. The opening episode saw Peter Wright unveil a memorial garden dedicated to pets lost over the years. Peter chose to establish the memorial garden at the World of James Herriot, with Shona and Matt Smith on hand to assist at the opening. Shona also paid tribute to her own dog Islay by dedicating a plaque to her on the memorial wall.
