Speculation is rife that Jack Butler, a contestant on the hit BBC series The Traitors, may have walked away with the show's prize fund after he proposed to his girlfriend on a luxurious holiday.
A Promise Kept in the Aegean
The 29-year-old personal trainer had vowed before the series aired that he would ask his long-term partner to marry him if he secured the cash prize. True to his word, in July, two months after filming wrapped in Scotland, Butler got down on one knee during a yacht trip around the Aegean Sea near the idyllic island of Santorini.
While Butler has shared limited details publicly, he posted a photograph holding his girlfriend's hand, which prominently displayed a substantial diamond ring. He captioned the image, referring to her as his "new fiancée".
Jeweller's Post Confirms Dreamy Proposal
Further evidence of the engagement came from the Instagram page of jewellery brand Durham Rose, which crafted the bespoke ring. The brand shared images of the romantic moment, describing the "dreamy Santorini, sun-kissed yacht" setting and celebrating the client's "YES".
"Thank you for trusting us to create this special piece," the post read. "We're honoured to be part of your love story." This public confirmation by the jeweller has significantly fuelled rumours that Butler's successful proposal was funded by a Traitors victory.
Eagle-Eyed Fans Uncover Another Secret Romance
Butler's engagement isn't the only relationship intrigue to emerge from the popular murder mystery game. Sharp-eyed viewers suspected a connection between contestants Dr Ellie Buckley and Ross Garshong from the very first episode, which aired on New Year's Day.
Their suspicions were confirmed after Ross was banished from the show. Ellie, 33, stunned viewers by revealing, "I'm really sad to see him go, especially because Ross is actually my boyfriend."
Ross, a personal trainer, expressed his amazement at the public's detective work in an interview with Radio 2. "I am shocked at the impressive investigative abilities of the British public," he admitted, noting the difficulty of scrubbing their social media accounts before the show.
Fans had pointed out their familiar demeanour on the train in the Scottish Highlands and later uncovered a group photo from a June 2024 work trip featuring them both. Ross has since thrown his support behind Ellie, declaring, "Ellie all the way. Bring it back for the household."
The BBC has been contacted for comment regarding the outcome of the show and the speculation surrounding Jack Butler's potential win.
