Celebrity Traitors season 2 has only just begun, but fans believe one star has already caused a major slip-up in the castle. The BBC show returned on Thursday night following last year's debut, which saw Alan Carr crowned the winner as a Traitor.
This time, host Claudia Winkleman welcomed a new cast to Ardross Castle in Scotland, selecting just two Traitors instead of the usual three. They are Withnail and I actor Richard E Grant and Love Island presenter Maya Jama.
Maya's reaction raises suspicions
When all the celebrities removed their blindfolds in the roundtable room, Maya's reaction was fairly over the top, squinting as though she'd been asleep for a week and then looking around at everyone else. Viewers felt she had spoiled her identity as a Traitor before committing her first murder.
'Maya Jama smirking like that is quite bait 😂,' fan Roy wrote on X. 'Sorry but Maya relax your eyes,' Celen remarked, while Ikra stated: 'Feel like Maya Jama will be found out instantly 🤣.'
'Maya looks guilty as hell 😂😂😂😂,' Nikerlina claimed, and Jack shared: 'Maya was serving Dynasty era Joan Collins when she took her mask off. Subtle.' 'Traitor Maya Jama smirking at the table already,' Ems commented.
Richard's admission and the first twist
Richard, 69, couldn't contain his excitement, telling his co-stars within minutes that he was a Traitor. His confession sounded so ridiculous that it convinced several of them he was actually a Faithful.
Earlier in the episode, all the celebrities gathered in the Traitors chapel before Claudia's entrance in a coffin. She asked them to vote for the most trustworthy among them, with Coronation Street actress Julie Hesmondhalgh winning. Claudia gave Julie two shields to protect anyone from murder, and Julie kept one for herself, giving the second to comedian Joe Lycett, who had tried to protect her.
Traitor choices revealed
Several stars admitted to Claudia they would relish being a Traitor, including The Last of Us actor Bella Ramsey, University Challenge host Amol Rajan, and comedian Rob Beckett. But in the end, Richard and Maya were her choices.
Celebrity Traitors airs on Thursday and Friday nights at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
