In a stunning turn of events on Thursday's episode of BBC's hit reality show The Traitors, the murder of a Faithful contestant left the studio contestants in shock, but the viewing public at home utterly baffled.
The Forgotten Faithful
Builder and part-time ghost hunter Adam became the latest victim of the treacherous Traitors, Rachel and Stephen, after their high-risk gamble in the turret paid off. The pair were forced to make a choice, deliberating over whether Adam, James, or Jessie had failed to win a protective shield in a recent mission. Against the odds, they selected Adam—the only one of the three who was actually shield-less.
While his fellow players expressed genuine dismay when Adam failed to appear at breakfast the next morning, the reaction on social media was starkly different. A flood of comments revealed that a significant portion of the audience had barely registered Adam's presence in the castle.
One viewer confessed they had to 'Google Adam after his murder', while another queried, 'did I blink whenever he was on the screen?'. The collective amnesia was palpable, with fans making remarks such as:
- 'I've just realised I haven’t a clue who Adam was.'
- 'Sorry Adam but I forgot you even existed so it's hard to feel sad about you.'
- 'Right okay Adam & Matt were interchangeable to me so this makes things easier actually lol.'
A Deadly Gamble That Paid Off
The move by Traitors Rachel and Stephen was fraught with danger. In Wednesday's episode, they voiced serious concerns that if they mistakenly murdered a player who secretly possessed a shield, it would immediately cast suspicion on them when that player arrived at breakfast unharmed. Stephen even calculated their chances of success at a mere '33%'.
Despite the slim odds, their selection of Adam proved correct. Upon receiving his fateful black envelope, Adam lamented the irony that as a ghost-hunter, he had now 'become one of the spirits himself'. His murder also redirected backlash towards fellow Faithful James, who had lied about securing a shield during the mission, a deception that now looked highly suspicious.
Fallout from a Dramatic Banishment
Adam's murder followed hot on the heels of another major exit. In Wednesday's episode, former barrister Harriet was banished after a dramatic roundtable where she directly accused Rachel of being a Traitor. Using her legal skills, Harriet presented her case, claiming Rachel had been 'in character' from the very first day.
Rachel, however, had a formidable defence. She revealed she had been 'trained by a former FBI agent' in reading micro-expressions and had profiled every contestant. Seeing the tide turn against her, Harriet made the bold move of asking the group to vote her out to prove her Faithful status, which they promptly did.
Speaking to The Sun after her exit, Harriet reflected on her short-lived but action-packed game, stating she would take her 'short-lived game' over being 'duped' in the final. As for Adam, his departure will likely be remembered more for the audience's forgetfulness than for any strategic play, leaving a memorable mark on a series full of deception and surprise.
