Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) is reverting to his manipulative ways in Coronation Street, and this time his target is Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger). After returning from Thailand, Todd learns that Fraser, the man Glenda is smitten with, is gay, and he decides to use this information to sabotage her chance at romance.
Todd's Dark Past Resurfaces
Fans of the show may recall Todd's history of ruthless scheming, including his obsession with winning back ex-boyfriend Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) by sabotaging his relationship. He also cheated on Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) with nurse Karl, gaslighted her to avoid coming out, faked his death to ghost Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), and destroyed his brother Jason's (Ryan Thomas) happiness with Eva Price (Katherine Tyldesley).
However, last year, Todd suffered abuse at the hands of his violent partner Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), which unlocked a vulnerable side to his character. Todd stayed with Theo out of fear and hope, but after a beating that led to a hospital trip, he left and reported the abuse. Theo later broke into Todd's flat and chased him onto the Street, where he fell to his death from a roof after a confrontation with Sarah, who was later arrested for the crime.
Glenda's Romance in Jeopardy
Now, Todd's return from visiting his mum Eileen (Sue Cleaver) in Thailand puts him at odds with Glenda. In the Rovers, Glenda takes a shine to Fraser and invites him for a drink. While alone with Todd, newcomer Celeste (Frances Barber) reveals that the funeral she is planning is for herself, as she has only six weeks to live. After planning a Dolly Parton-themed service, she leaves with Fraser, who gives Glenda his number and agrees to a date.
When Todd reveals he's off to Canal Street, Christina insists on joining him. It's clear Todd has been drinking heavily since his trip, and Glenda calls him out on it, making him livid. When Celeste later warns Todd that Fraser is gay, Todd takes matters into his own hands, reverting to his fiendish scheming type.
The Old Todd Returns
With Todd set to sabotage Glenda's romance, Weatherfield should brace for the return of the old Todd Grimshaw. His actions are likely to cause chaos and hurt those closest to him, proving that his dark side is never far away.
