Emergency services are searching for a missing 22-year-old man from Northumberland who was last seen heading towards Wylam from Wylam Bridge in the early hours of Saturday, August 15. Northumbria Police issued an appeal for information earlier today as officers and family grow increasingly concerned for his welfare.
Search operation underway
A large number of police and mountain rescue teams have been in attendance in the village of Wylam, with several vehicles including a Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team ambulance at the scene. On Sunday afternoon, search operations entered the River Tyne as crews were spotted on the river bank and in the water equipped with a police boat.
The missing man, named Liam, is described as a white man, 6ft 3ins tall, of medium build with dark hair. He has tattoos down his right arm. He was last seen wearing black joggers, black Nike trainers with a black t-shirt with white text and a diamond logo on the back, and a gold chain.

The search comes after a pedestrian was taken to hospital after being hit by a car on Wylam Bridge in the early hours of Saturday morning. The crash happened shortly after midnight on August 15, and an ambulance crew treated one person at the scene before taking them to hospital. The extent of the person's injuries is currently unknown.
