Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien has spoken about her future on the long-running ITV soap as her character Sarah Platt's fate is set to be confirmed in upcoming trial scenes for the murder of Theo Silverton.
Sarah confessed to killing the builder, who had been abusing her husband Todd Grimshaw, in July. Viewers had learned weeks earlier that she was responsible for his death. Theo's body was found by a horrified Betsy Swain on the night of her mum Lisa Swain's wedding to Carla Connor on April 23, triggering a murder investigation.
Flashback reveals the fatal blow
Flashback scenes showed Sarah dealing the blow that sent a drunk Theo tumbling off scaffolding outside his flat. She then called on her former flame, Gary Windass, for help. Sarah later confessed the truth to Todd, while Kit remained determined to pin Theo's murder on Gary, unaware that Gary had been covering for Sarah. Sarah eventually confessed to her copper beau just as he was trying to propose.
Despite Kit's attempts to help cover up her crime, Sarah was arrested on suspicion of killing Theo. She was charged as evidence stacked against her and admitted to the murder, telling DS Lisa Connor-Swain it was in self-defence.
Day in court approaches
After months on remand, Sarah will now fight for her freedom as she tries to convince the jury she did not kill Theo in cold blood. A new atmospheric promo shows a terrified Sarah in the dock as a voiceover calls her a "cold-blooded murderer." A frightened Sarah then says: "I think we need to prepare for the worst."
Corrie spoilers for next week give more details about what lies ahead, but whether Sarah walks free or is found guilty remains to be seen.
Tina on her two decades on the cobbles
While viewers wait to discover Sarah's fate, Tina has been discussing her two decades on the cobbles and whether her future remains in Weatherfield. She told Bella magazine: "I am really happy here at Corrie. Do I want to do it forever? I don't know, but I am very grateful for a job I genuinely love."
Tina, who shares daughter Scarlett, 17, with ex and former co-star Ryan Thomas, and son Beau, 11, with her ex-husband Adam Crofts, added: "I love being able to come home for my son. If I were a jobbing actress, I'd have to go to a lot of auditions. This role enables me to be there for my son and do something I am passionate about."
