BBC star Tillie Amartey has expressed her willingness to step in for Maya Jama as host of Love Island, should the ITV presenter ever decide to take a break. Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, the actress and presenter revealed she has numerous exciting projects in the pipeline but would never turn down the opportunity to front one of Britain's biggest reality shows.
Busy Behind the Scenes
Tillie, known for her role on BBC's Waterloo Road, said she is currently occupied with behind-the-scenes work. "Loads of things are going on, a lot of auditions are going on, lots of things bubbling away," she teased. While remaining tight-lipped about specific upcoming projects, she expressed a desire to continue building her career in both acting and presenting.
A Natural Fit for Presenting
The star highlighted her passion for music and meeting people as reasons why presenting suits her naturally. "I am so passionate about music and people," she said. She also joked about her career ambitions: "I'll stick to my acting and presenting – whatever Maya Jama or AJ Odudu haven't taken, anything literally."
Not Suited for Contestant Life
Despite being a fan of Love Island, Tillie admitted she would not thrive as a contestant. The actress confessed she gets easily put off by potential romances, making it unlikely she would last long in the villa. "Well I am single so I can use all the help I can get," she joked. "Love Island...I don't know. I get so many icks. I don't know if I can do it."
Ready to Host
Tillie believes she would be better suited hosting the show than participating. "I could present it though," she said. "If Maya Jama wants to take a hiatus and needs a break, I'm up!" She praised Maya's work, calling her "fabulous" and "the crème de la crème." She also complimented fellow presenter AJ Odudu, describing her as a "northern lass like myself."
Application Ready
While making it clear she does not expect Maya to step aside soon, Tillie joked that she already has her application ready. "If Maya needs a break," she laughed, "she works very hard, that lady. I'm available." For now, Tillie remains focused on her acting and presenting career, but she would eagerly answer the call from Love Island bosses if it ever comes.
