TalkSPORT presenter Shebahn Aherne accidentally swore live on air while reading a footballer's name during Sunday's Weekend Sports Breakfast. The blunder happened as she attempted to introduce a story about Middlesbrough striker Will Lankshear, who had scored twice in the team's Championship victory over West Bromwich Albion at the Riverside Stadium.
Stumble over surname leads to expletive
While running through the morning's sporting headlines alongside former Republic of Ireland international Tony Cascarino, Aherne stumbled over Lankshear's surname, accidentally uttering an expletive in the process.
She said: "Some of your headlines this morning: Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with a minimum of 22 million to sign Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace. Will Lankshear... Lank... w***... Lankshear!"
Cascarino reacts as presenter checks broadcast
Cascarino burst out laughing, managing only an "oh dear" as Aherne realised what had happened. She then wondered whether the production team had removed the slip-up from the broadcast.
"Oh, dear. Oh dear, Will. Will Lankshear... scored twice as Middlesbrough beat West Brom Albion at the Riverside Stadium. Sam, did you dump that? He didn't. Right, okay, good," she said.
Cascarino pointed out that Aherne would likely have been annoyed had the offending moment been removed. Aherne jokingly questioned why the moment had been kept, admitting she had let slip what she described as a "really offensive swear word".
Presenter laughs off potential fine
Aherne laughed off the potential consequences, quipping that she would happily pay any fine that might follow, including a possible Ofcom penalty. The presenters then moved on, continuing with the morning's football news, including Watford's unbeaten start to the Championship season.
