A video showing dozens of holidaymakers sprinting for sunbeds at a resort in Salou has sparked fury online, with many viewers initially thinking the crowd was fleeing from danger.

The clip, shared on TikTok by a British man staying at the resort, is captioned: "No, it's not sped up. That's how fast they ran." In the footage, a large number of guests can be seen running towards the sunbeds when the pool area opens in the morning. The creator can be heard saying: "Oh my god. Get a grip. Look at this!"

Social media users were baffled by the scene. One commented: "May these holidays never find me." Another joked: "Meanwhile I wake up 10 minutes before breakfast ends." A third added: "The disgust in your voice is killing me." Others noted the nearby beach, with one writing: "Meanwhile the nicest beach on the planet is like 200m down the road." The video, from the Dorada Palace in Salou, has been viewed over 5 million times on TikTok. It is not the first extreme case this summer, as large queues were previously reported at a resort in Crete. More hotels are being urged to address the issue after a holidaymaker won a payout in court. Earlier this year, a German man successfully sued his tour operator for allowing sunbeds to be reserved during his 2024 holiday in Kos. He claimed he spent 20 minutes daily trying to find a lounger despite waking at 6am. He was granted an £850 refund in May at a district court in Hanover, with the ruling described as a "warning" to other operators.
