Strictly Come Dancing star Jaime Winstone has spoken about the emotional toll of surviving the show's first dance-off of the series. The actress found herself in the bottom two alongside celebrity hairdresser Chris Appleton on Sunday night (October 4), with all judges opting to save Jaime and send Chris home.
Emotional confession on It Takes Two
Appearing on It Takes Two on Tuesday night (October 6) with her professional partner Carlos Gu, Jaime told host Ellie Taylor: "It was terrifying. All the feelings of 'Oh, nobody likes me, and we got so much wrong'. But, I loved doing the dance, I love the Cha Cha."
The 41-year-old said she was proud of herself but described the experience as a 'horrific feeling'. When Ellie noticed how emotional she was becoming, Jaime admitted: "To be honest, it has been really emotional these last 24 hours. Just because you're- it's such a fast pace. I'm used to not being that vulnerable on camera."
Reflecting on insecurities
Jaime referenced comments made by Chris after his elimination, saying: "There were certain little things that Chris (Appleton) said yesterday. You do go back to that child in school, going, 'Oh, I don't fit in'. Actually, some of your greatest things about you are what make you stand out, and a lot of insecurities happened yesterday, and it's not how you fall, it's how you get yourself back up."
Carlos highlighted how proud he was of her in the rehearsal studio this week, noting that she hasn't given up.
Upcoming Viennese Waltz
The pair also revealed they will perform a Viennese Waltz to the song Never Tear Us Apart this Saturday. Jaime said of the routine: "Oh my god, it's really emotional! It's emotional. Coming in with the energy, I can use it as the tools, you know? As an actor, I can go, 'Right ok, I am feeling really emotional from last weekend' But also, it's really powerful."
Last weekend, Jaime and Carlos received a score of 21 from the judges, while Chris was given 17. Speaking about his time on the show, Chris said: "I literally would go out there shaking, I did it anyway. There were times, where I was like, 'I'm not sure I can do this', but I did it. All I did was look back at Amy, I'd see her smile, and I knew she was with me, and you know what? That says something about the show, to have people that care so much about you."
The 43-year-old praised the 'phenomenal' team behind the scenes, adding: "It really is a journey, it's a phenomenal one, and if you're lucky enough to do it, jump at it because it's amazing. But it's a journey." It Takes Two continues weekdays on BBC Two from 6:30pm.
