Strictly Fans Divided Over New Hosts After Second Show
Strictly Fans Divided Over New Hosts After Second Show

Strictly Come Dancing fans are still divided over the show's new presenting line-up after the second episode of the series aired on Saturday, October 3. The BBC favourite returned to screens with Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and former professional dancer Johannes Radebe at the helm.

Mixed Reactions to the New Hosting Trio

The trio took over from long-time favourites Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who left their roles at the end of last season. It was announced in May that Emma, Josh and Johannes would be taking over, each taking on different roles across the live shows. Following the first episode, the new line-up faced plenty of scrutiny, and while some viewers had hoped the hosts would settle in during the second week, others remained unconvinced.

Emma and Josh took centre stage as they chatted to the celebrities after their performances in front of the judging panel, while Johannes was once again based in the balcony area. Despite the Movie Night theme bringing glitz and glamour to the dancefloor, some viewers were more focused on the presenters.

Viewers Question Josh Widdicombe's Role

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, fans shared their thoughts on Josh's role alongside Emma, with several claiming the comedian did not appear to be a natural fit for the show. One viewer wrote: "Not sure Josh Widdicome is right for Strictly; he seems very nervous and out of his comfort zone. Emma can handle it anyway!"

Another said they felt Josh's usual comedy style was not coming across, writing: "Anyone who knows Josh Widdicombe from The Last Leg knows what a great quick witted comedian he is when allowed to ad lib. Sadly his lines on #strictly are far too scripted and not doing him any favours…"

A third viewer stated: "My opinion hasn't changed on Josh Widdicombe presenting with Emma he just doesn't fit, Emma should present it on her own!" Another fan was even more critical, posting: "Josh Widdicombe totally miscast in a totally pointless role. Whoever thought there should be two people downstairs should be fired. If it works don't fix it."

Some Fans Warm to the New Line-Up

However, not everyone watching at home shared the criticism, with one viewer saying they had actually warmed to all three presenters during the second show. They penned: "Honestly I can't believe I am saying this but for me the 3 presenters worked tonight. Emma the queen of course smashed it. Johannes I felt calmed it down from last week and Josh was a lot more relaxed. It's early days but I feel the guys are growing into their roles."
