The BBC hit returned with celebrities taking to the dance floor for their first performances in the quest for the Glitterball Trophy. However, attention quickly shifted from the routines to the programme's new opening.
New opening sequence sparks reaction
The show launched with a striking new sequence featuring a drone camera sweeping from room to room, capturing stars in rehearsals before tracking their journey into the studio in one seamless take. The unconventional introduction left some viewers feeling 'dizzy', with many taking to social media to question the change to the beloved opening credits.
One viewer wrote: "Oh gosh this new opener is spinning me out! ! #Strictly" Another said: "Immediately hate #strictly already what the hell were those titles I'm gonna be sick they've taken all the whimsy away."

New presenting team and judging panel
Tonight, the 2026 dance duos performed for the first time in front of the judges and audience, with a diverse array of dances and songs on the agenda. The show also saw Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and professional dancer Johannes Radebe make their Strictly presenting debuts, taking over from Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke returned to the judging panel to assess the celebrities' debut performances. There will be no eliminations during tonight's show, ensuring all 15 pairs progress to next week.
