Strictly fans complain over results show format change

Strictly Come Dancing viewers issued complaints over a major change to the first results show of the series, which aired on Sunday, October 4. The episode introduced a new format order that left many fans confused.

New format order sparks complaints

After a pre-recorded segment recapped Saturday night's performances, hosts Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe appeared in the Clauditorium to speak to the judges before any results had been revealed. Previously, the judges' debrief took place later in the show, after some safe couples had been announced.

BBC viewers shared their reactions on X, with one person writing: "Judges debrief first? What's going on. Oh and the screen is back." Another added: "OMG a debrief with two hosts before the Results." A third said: "Ooh, straight to debrief."

Mixed reactions from viewers

One viewer fumed: "Why does @bbcstrictly need two presenters for 'Dance Debrief'? Another tweak they've got wrong." However, other fans were delighted to see Emma and Johannes present a segment together, as Emma had previously been partnered with Josh Widdicombe in the ballroom, while Johannes took the reins in the Clauditorium.

"FINALLY THE CORRECT PAIRING," one person wrote. Another added: "This is SOOOOOO much better." A third viewer echoed the sentiment, saying: "JoJo and Emma finally presenting together. Now can we have them downstairs on the main show please." Someone else commented: "Oh Emma and Johannes together! They've realised that's how it should be."

Results and performances

Earlier in the night, all 15 couples danced movie-inspired routines, with scores combined from the previous week. Delta Goodrem and Kai Widdrington topped the joint leaderboard with 59 points, followed by Graeme Hall and Lauren Oakley and Lacey Turner and Vito Coppola, each with 55 points. Melanie Walters and Aljaž Škorjanec were at the bottom with 30 points.

The episode also featured a The Devil Wears Prada routine from the professionals and a performance from Matilda The Musical, with the four young performers singing "Quiet" alongside composer Tim Minchin. Emma then revealed the first group of couples who made it through to week three, before Josh joined Johannes to interview the delighted pairings. Strictly Come Dancing is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
