Strictly Come Dancing viewers have been left “gutted” after spoilers leaked online revealed who left following Icons Week. The BBC competition returned on Saturday, 17 October, with the remaining stars taking to the dancefloor after celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton and his partner Amy Dowden, and Gavin and Stacey star Melanie Walters and her partner Aljaz Skorjanec were eliminated.
Icons Week celebrations
Icons Week saw the stars pose as Madonna in a professional dancers routine, and celebrate legendary names from Aretha Franklin and David Bowie to James Brown and Elton John. Meanwhile, Shirley Ballas came as Lady Gaga, Motsi Mabuse was Beyonce, and Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke came as Oasis stars Liam and Noel Gallagher.
Following Saturday evening’s performance, spoilers were leaked online about the dance-off and results, which airs on Sunday night each week but is prerecorded.
Leaderboard and fan reactions
The leaderboard saw Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu at the top with their Paso Doble, scoring a joint 34 points with Love Island star Cach Mercer and Maddie Ingoldsby, who performed a Foxtrot. They were followed by Will Best and Dianne Buswell’s Jive, which scored 31.
Meanwhile, Dame Sarah Storey and Julian Caillon found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard, scoring 21 points for their Tango, while Dani Dyer and Nikita Kuzmin earned 25 for their Rumba.
After the results were leaked online, one fan admitted: “That’s a shame.” Another echoed that they were “really sad” over who left, adding: “They still had potential and were gradually improving each week.” Another wrote that they were “absolutely gutted for the couple that left”. They added: “As I thought it was the song and theme which sealed their fate as the song didn't match dance style. I'm really shocked about the other couple who were in the bottom 2 but they didn't have their best dance this week.”
Another said they were “sad to see” the star go, while someone else echoed: “Gosh gutted for the couple who left. But sadly saw ti coming.” “Bit surprised by this bottom two,” another fan wrote. Yet another echoed: “Right person left, gutted [for the other star in the dance off].”
Delta Goodrem's injury
One contestant had been forced to miss out on the competition this week, after it emerged that Delta Goodrem had suffered a rib injury. The BBC had previously shared: “Due to injury, Delta Goodrem has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, will not dance on this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing.
In line with the rules of the show, Delta and Kai will receive a bye through to next week when it is hoped they will be able to dance again. We wish Delta the very best as she continues her recovery.”
Delta added in her own statement that she was “gutted”, saying: “I’m absolutely gutted that a rib injury means I won’t be able to dance on Strictly this week. I’ve been loving every second of this experience, so having to sit this one out is heartbreaking - especially after the high of Saturday night.
I cannot tell you how much I love being a part of this magical show. I’m going to focus on resting and recovering, and hopefully I’ll be back on that dancefloor very soon. Thank you so much to everyone for all the love and support. It’s so appreciated. I’ll be cheering everyone on from the sidelines this week! Sending all my love, Delta xx.”
The Strictly Come Dancing results show airs from 7.10pm on Sunday on BBC One and iPlayer, while the competition continues next Saturday at 6.30pm.
