Amélie Hoeferle, one of the lead stars of Prime Video's new YA drama Sterling Point, has opened up about her character Ramona's harrowing story and the 'complex sadness' that drew her to the role.
About Sterling Point
Sterling Point follows Annie Jacobson (Ella Rubin), an adopted teenager who, along with her twin brother Connor (Keen Ruffalo), inherits their estranged grandfather's Canadian island after his death. Eager to learn about her past, Annie visits the island and uncovers a web of family secrets that changes her life forever. She is shocked to find Ramona, a young orphaned woman living in her grandfather's home.

Hoeferle, a 24-year-old actress born in Germany and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, recently appeared in Eddington alongside Emma Stone, Austin Butler, and Pedro Pascal. Her other credits include Night Swim and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Sterling Point marks a major milestone in her career, bringing her to an international audience through a major streamer.
Her Inspirations and the Role
In an interview with Numero Netherlands, Hoeferle discussed how growing up in both Germany and Atlanta shaped her personally and creatively. 'It's given me so much, probably more than I'm aware of right now,' she said. 'Growing up between two countries and cultures has exposed me to different perspectives on the dynamics of interpersonal relationships, what it means to live a fulfilling life, and art in general, although I think all three of those bleed into one another.'
She also shared what attracted her to Ramona, a gay teenager who feels lost after the death of her only family. 'Ramona's complex sadness pulled me in quickly. You meet her at such a devastating transitional time in her life. That, as a starting point, was interesting to me,' she said. Hoeferle is keen to explore more roles involving complex humans, adding, 'Something as rudimentary as a trip to the grocery store can be emotionally harrowing. I think I'm interested in that, the complexity of what it means to be human.'

On Instagram, Hoeferle shared behind-the-scenes photos from filming and paid tribute to her co-stars. She wrote: 'Summer 2025 is seared into my mind. My sleep-deprived words right now won't nearly touch what I feel for these people and this show, but what echoes in my mind is "thank you".
