Sam & Ade Go Birding Returns for Extended Second Series on Channel 5
Sam & Ade Go Birding Returns for Extended Second Series

Channel 5 has recommissioned Sam & Ade Go Birding for an extended second run, with the new series set to feature six hour-long episodes, double the first series' three.

Return of the Birding Duo

The series stars Samuel West, known for his role as Siegfried Farnon on All Creatures Great and Small, alongside his friend Adrian Edmondson. The pair explore their love of bird watching, having previously travelled across the country to visit locations such as West Cornwall, North Norfolk and Somerset.

The synopsis for the new series reads: "Bitten firmly by the birding bug, Ade wants Sam to show him more. Across the series, they travel from the rolling hills and towering sea cliffs of Yorkshire and the wilds of West Wales to the remote isles and dramatic coastlines of Scotland, exploring some of Britain's most spectacular landscapes in search of birds big and small. Along the way they encounter swifts, swallows, curlews, red kites, ospreys, woodland songbirds, puffins, guillemots and gannets."

Production and Comments

The series is currently in production, with a broadcast date yet to be announced. Speaking about the return, Samuel West said: "My dastardly plan to get Adrian Edmondson addicted to birding seems to be paying off. Ade said he wanted to see more birds, so I thought we should go and find some. I'm not particularly fond of him, but the birds are lovely."

Adrian Edmondson added: "More birds, more stunning views, more chats, more trips to the pub - it's a hard life, but someone's got to do it."

What to Expect

While the destinations for the new series have not been revealed, it promises candid moments between the two friends, with discussions about family, mortality, moving stories and, of course, birds. The first series was a huge hit with viewers and earned the pair a longlisting for the Grierson Award for Best Documentary Presenter, with the winner to be announced in November. The first series of Sam & Ade Go Birding is available to watch on Channel 5.
