Romesh Ranganathan explains 'odd' Celebrity Traitors moment on Radio 2
Romesh Ranganathan on 'odd' Celebrity Traitors moment

Romesh Ranganathan has been explaining some of his most baffling moments on The Celebrity Traitors series two, after being questioned by his co-star on BBC Radio 2. The 48-year-old comedian is among 20 famous faces attempting to identify a Traitor in the Scottish castle, and discussed his participation during his Radio 2 show on Saturday morning.

Romesh's 'eggy' comment

Romesh's Radio 2 audience and colleague, traffic presenter Sally Boazman, were encouraged to pose questions about his time on the show, though the host promised he wouldn't disclose any plot details. Sally was intrigued to understand the thinking behind Romesh's "odd" comment as the celebrities departed for a challenge during episode two, where they had the chance to protect each other from the Traitors' subsequent elimination and increase the prize money.

"Well, at one point, you said, 'oh let's go and make some money... ooh, why did I say that?' Now, that was a bit of an odd thing to say, because you always do that here, you say something on air and then you say, 'I don't know why I said that'," Sally said.

Romesh agreed: "Yep, immediate regret," before revealing that he had completely forgotten making the comment until Sally played a clip from the episode. After watching the reminder, he clarified: "Ok, can I tell you why I said that? Because it's just such an eggy thing to say, 'let's raise some money, guys!' It's just so embarrassing!" Sally interjected: "I tell you what, it was the 'guys' at the end," as both burst into laughter.

Rob Beckett 'snog' and dance regrets

Recalling another scene involving his friend and fellow participant Rob Beckett, where the duo confirmed to one another that neither was a Traitor, Sally questioned Romesh about how the two comedians seemed to have "went in for a bit of a snog". Dismissing the moment with humour, Romesh joked: "Before I went into the castle, I was looking at strategies and stuff like that, and one of the things is, you can tell someone's a Traitor from a full-on tongue kiss... no, I'm joking!"

He acknowledged that his close bond with Rob "is a weakness" in the competition, adding: "There's an advantage in some ways, but once you're in the game, it's difficult." The radio presenter, who is taking part as a Faithful, also shared a listener's comment praising his dance when he found out he had immunity. He admitted: "Now, I, umm, I regret that dance, can I be honest with you?" with Sally agreeing: "It wasn't your finest moment, I don't think."

Castle life and next episode

Reflecting on how fellow participants responded to the performance - which occurred when Romesh and Ross Kemp were informed by host Claudia Winkleman that they were immune from the next murder - he disclosed: "A lot of people came up to me afterwards and said, 'you know you're being filmed doing that?'" Sally also asked whether it's "really posh inside the castle", commenting: "The food looks amazing, it always makes me want to make a meal!" Romesh joked in reply: "It's almost as posh, I would say, as my home."

The Celebrity Traitors continues on Thursday October 8 from 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
