The Repair Shop's Dominic Chinea has made a heartbreaking admission about his new home in west Cornwall, confessing that the farmhouse he is renovating is "falling apart" around him.
Dominic, 40, moved from Kent to Cornwall last year with his wife Maria and their dog Wendy, swapping a renovated 17th-century post office for a dilapidated farmhouse that they are transforming into their forever home. He has been documenting the restoration on his YouTube channel, where he recently opened up about the scale of the work still needed.
Admitting defeat on a cherished project
The metalwork expert revealed he has "taken the easy route" and bought a new part for his Series 1 Land Rover, admitting he does not have time to patch up the original rear tub himself. He said he would love to do the work but has had to shelve the project while his home takes priority.
In a video tour of his workshop, Dominic said: "The building I'm in, my workshop, is crumbling around me. The holes in the roof are getting worse and worse every day."
He added: "I've got more puddling clay waiting to go into the pond, which I really want to get sealed up and full. And you haven't even seen the inside of the house yet. The house is also falling apart around me. So I have got a huge amount going on here constantly."
Fans rally behind the star
The presenter explained he has been busy filming two TV shows that are "taking me all over the country", leaving little time for the restoration work. Viewers were quick to show their support in the comments, with one writing: "Fair play. Pick your battles, mate."
Another advised: "Dom, get your house done first, so much more important than your projects. Two months, and we are into winter, and winters down there are harsh."
A third echoed the sentiment: "Take one thing at a time and don’t worry about all the things that need to be done. But I would focus on your house before winter comes, if you lose the house, then you would add to the load. Be determined to do one thing at a time. I know how much you love your cars, but what good are they if you don’t have a roof over your head?"
Another fan added: "Don't think many people would argue with that decision. I thought I had too many projects, but watching you makes me feel so much better."
