Oti Mabuse was left red-faced after forgetting the name of former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Daniel O'Donnell during an appearance on Iain Stirling's Roast the Internet. The blunder came as she was quizzed on former co-stars from the BBC show, which she joined in 2015 and left in 2022.
Since leaving Strictly, Mabuse has hosted her own ITV breakfast programme, appeared on Loose Women and I'm A Celebrity, and served as a judge on Dancing with the Stars. During her time on the show, she was partnered with Kelvin Fletcher, Danny Mac and Bill Bailey.
Grilled on former co-stars
In an exclusive clip shared before the episode airs on Monday, October 19, Iain Stirling teased: "Here are some people who you've shared a Strictly stage with, so you should definitely still know." The first image showed her former dance partner Bill Bailey, with whom she lifted the glitterball trophy in 2020. "Love him," she said.
Another image showed Mabuse's I'm A Celebrity co-star Reverend Richard Coles, before Stirling laughed: "If you get one wrong, it'll be so good!" "I won't," Mabuse vowed, though Stirling joked there was a moment of "uncertainty" before she recognised Faye Tozer.
Daniel O'Donnell moment
She grimaced as she momentarily forgot Anneka Rice's surname before correctly answering, but then failed to remember the name of one star. "Ireland will kick me out if I get this one wrong," she admitted, adding: "Oh no," as she forgot his name. "This is the Cliff Richard of Ireland," Stirling said.
Attempting to come up with a name, Mabuse remembered that the star had sung for her and she had posted a clip of him. As she pondered whether it was Danny Boyle or Danny Jones, Stirling corrected: "It's Daniel O'Donnell!"
Irish singer Daniel appeared on Strictly in Mabuse's first year in 2015 and was partnered with Kristina Rihanoff before becoming the third celebrity eliminated. Mabuse was left red-faced over the blunder, while Stirling praised: "That was unbelievable, can we all give it up for Oti Mabuse?" Iain Stirling's Roast the Internet airs at 9pm on Comedy Central on Monday, October 19.
