Comedian Matt Richardson has revealed he was paid £12,000 for his six-day appearance on Channel 4's Celebrity Coach Trip in 2022, a fee he negotiated up from the initial offer of £5,000.
Details of the Payment
Richardson, known for co-presenting ITV2's The Xtra Factor, appeared on the reality show alongside Big Brother presenter Will Best. The pair joined a coach tour across Europe with other celebrities, voting to eject contestants until one team won. In a TikTok Q&A, Richardson disclosed: "12 grand I got for Coach Trip, which I didn't think was bad considering I was on it for 6 days."
He explained that producers originally proposed around £5,000, but he haggled for more. "They came in and originally offered something like five and I know that a couple of the others were on three or four grand because they mentioned it," he said. However, he noted that contestants did not openly discuss fees during filming: "Because I don't know these people, I wouldn't really talk about money as openly."
No Winning Bonus
Richardson clarified that the payment was a flat fee regardless of how long they stayed on the show, with no bonus for winning. "Coach Trip was just a set fee no matter how long you were in it – no winning bonus," he said, adding that he and Best aimed to be eliminated early: "The less we're in this, the better it is for us. Like, I'm not staying out here for three weeks, let's get home, mate."
The duo appeared alongside stars including Linda Robson, Honey G, Paul Danan, and Sophie Kasaei. At the time, Richardson expressed excitement: "I can't wait to spend a holiday on a coach filled with celebs. It's what I normally do, so filming it just makes sense!" Best joked: "The chance to go on holiday with a mate, meet the icon that is Brendan (the tour guide), AND clear my rent arrears, all in one fell swoop? Yes please!"
