Married At First Sight's Bec Zacharia has revealed how a weekend escape with Danny Hewitt saved their relationship after the infamous retreat scandal. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Bec admitted the fallout from her controversial comment pushed her to breaking point, and she was ready to quit the show entirely.
'I wanted to leave. I didn't want to be there anymore,' she said. Danny stepped in and pulled the couple away from the chaos, checking into a hotel in Sydney's CBD for several days away from filming.
'Danny and I removed ourselves from the experiment for a couple of days and we had some really intense conversations about leaving,' Bec explained. Instead of ending their marriage, the time away brought them closer together than ever before.
'It really was a moment that connected us better than we'd ever connected before,' she admitted. Away from the cameras, they got a taste of what their relationship could look like in the real world, exploring Kiama and troubleshooting whether to continue in the experiment.
Danny said he had 'had enough of all the bulls**t' and made the call to leave the retreat. Despite the dramatic exit, he insisted there was no elaborate strategy for returning to the show.
