Former Love Island contestant Jessy Potts has disclosed a strict rule that all Islanders must follow during the iconic Snog, Marry, Pie challenge, revealing that contestants must commit to their selections before the task begins.
Locked-In Decisions
Speaking to Mecca Bingo, Potts explained that villa residents have no opportunity to change their minds once the challenge starts. "For our season, and obviously all seasons, you basically have to lock in who you're choosing before you do the challenge," she said. "If not, I definitely would have pied somebody else than who I did at the time. You'd have everyone changing their minds and switching things up based on who's gone before them, so it makes it fair that you have to lock in your decision beforehand."
Drama Over Kisses
Potts also revealed another lesser-known rule: when contestants choose someone to "snog," they must actually perform a proper kiss, not just a peck. "A few people didn't realise that when they chose someone for 'snog,' they actually had to snog them. They weren't allowed to just give them a peck. That caused a lot of drama. I think Joey thought he could just give Nicole a peck, but they weren't allowing that. The producers were like, 'No, you've chosen her for a snog, so go on,'" she recounted.
Chaotic and Iconic
Potts described the challenge as "chaotic" and noted that she was pied three times during her appearance. "Obviously that causes even more drama because it's like, 'Why would you choose somebody else's partner to snog?' It's a very dramatic challenge," she added. "But also, I feel like if I didn't get to do that challenge, I would have been gutted because it is iconic."
The challenge returns in tonight's episode (Friday, July 10) after Martha received a message: "Islanders. Get ready to pucker up, lock it down and whip up a frenzy in tonight's challenge - Snog, Marry, Pie." In a dramatic preview clip, Julia is seen preparing a pie and heading toward the boys, only to pivot toward the girls, leaving the villa stunned.
Love Island airs Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
