Love Island fans have speculated that Dejon's declaration of love for girlfriend Meg was a strategic move following criticism from her family. During Tuesday night's episode, Dejon told Meg he loved her on the terrace, saying: 'My heart feels so safe with you. Speaking to my mum today, it was good reassurance to what I already knew.'
However, viewers were sceptical after Meg's family expressed doubts about the couple's chemistry. The parents described the pair as 'too serious' and questioned whether they had fun together. They also criticised Dejon's 'flirty behaviour' and suggested Meg let him off too lightly.
Taking to social media, one fan wrote: 'Something negative happens. Dejon: Lets go exclusive. Something negative happens. Dejon: Will you be my girlfriend. Something negative happens. Dejon: I love you.' Another agreed: 'Because dejon was told again there’s no visual spark he has to pull out the I love you bag!'
Despite the scepticism, Dejon had previously told fellow Islander Harry that he was falling in love with Meg but struggled to find the words. Some fans defended the couple, calling them 'the most genuine couple to ever go on Love Island.'
The romantic moment was overshadowed by a tense challenge later in the episode. During the 'Couple Goals' game, Meg and Dejon were tasked with reading out questions, including 'Which couple is most fake?' This led to awkward exchanges, with Meg accusing Shakira of making 'hurtful comments.'
Love Island continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
