Love is Blind UK's Faye has defended her husband Jack over the backlash he received after the show's wedding day edit, saying she does not think it is fair that he was painted in a bad light. The couple, who confirmed they are still happily married and have travelled the world together, spoke exclusively to The Mirror after the season three reunion aired.
Jack's lateness explained
During the series, Jack was at the centre of controversy after finding connections with both Faye and Ciara, but after choosing Faye to marry, the couple faced one hurdle when Jack went 'missing' after a night out. On their wedding day, producers were overheard saying Jack was supposed to be there "half an hour ago", leading to backlash over his apparent carelessness.
Faye explained how the moment was dramatised "for television", sharing how she had "accidentally seen Jack at 7am on the wedding day", so she knew he would definitely be on time for their ceremony. Jack went on to explain that he was late for his call time, but not for the ceremony itself, adding: "What's happened is true, I was half an hour late, but not while Faye is in her dress waiting as everyone assumes."
Sentiment behind the lateness
Jack revealed there was a lot of sentiment behind his lateness, explaining: "I did wake up late, I'd had a busy day, my mates also got very drunk at the hotel, rightly so because I did. I was working with the execs on my vows. I had put a scrapbook together for Faye, for which I had to go and do cutting and sticking in my room."
He added: "So I was in and out, which was a blessing because I didn't get too drunk. I'm tired more than anything. But my call time was like half 5 in the morning, so I was half an hour late because I wanted a shower and I was not going to rush on my wedding day." Confirming the pair had seen one another before the ceremony, he shared: "We accidentally saw each other, our taxis were right next to each other. She knew I was there."
Faye's defence
Faye was quick to defend her husband, adding: "I get it is really exciting when you see all this stuff like 'Oh my god, what is happening?', but like... the shot of him getting in the car, we all have to do shots getting in and out of the car, so they have used one to kind of make it look like he was running away at the altar which was not true."
"Sometimes it maybe paints you in a bit of a bad light, and I don't think it's fair," she said, looking at Jack. Jack admitted he had received a lot of hateful comments after the season aired, sharing: "I'm getting the worst in the comments and stuff, it's awful, but we are very happy and I'm so grateful for this experiment."
Addressing the missing incident
The couple also addressed the incident during the experiment when Jack disappeared the morning after Faye's birthday party, and she was unable to track him down on her Find My Friends app. On reflection, Jack said he understood Faye's concerns and the misunderstanding was quickly resolved.
"You have got to remember this is a dramatised thing for TV," he shared. "At that point in time, the difficult thing for Faye is you are best friends with this person and everything is looking positive, and then one mistake sets you back to 'What am I doing? Who is this guy? Am I doing the right thing? Am I making the wrong decision?'"
He added: "And all that pressure, once you are out of the experiment, it's quite normal things. We wanted to make sure that on our journey, we showed absolute reality, the ups, the downs, as tough as it's been and as much as now, maybe I wish I'd just thrown my toys out the pram and said 'No filming today', but that's not real, is it?"
Faye agreed, adding: "The whole point of the show is that you do capture real relationships because you are meant to be relatable. Yes, we did have a horrible part we had to film together, we are not the only couple who had to do that."
She concluded: "I hope couples who ever have to experience things like that can just learn and relate. As a couple, you work as a team, and it's about getting through that and really understanding one another to stop that from happening." The Love is Blind reunion is on Netflix.
