Sammy and Jonathan, one of the couples whose Love Is Blind UK series three journey was never aired, have spoken publicly for the first time about their ongoing romance and a devastating personal loss.
The Netflix dating show follows 30 singles through a series of blind dates in pods designed to prevent contestants from ever seeing each other. Participants can only meet face to face if they accept a marriage proposal. In a record-breaking season, 14 contestants became engaged, yet only six of those love stories were shown to viewers.
Why some couples were cut
Executive producer Nazleen Karim previously explained the decision to omit certain couples. She said: "When there are more engagements than we can physically follow, we have to make difficult editorial choices. We’re looking for a range of different relationship journeys and stories that together capture the full experience of the experiment."
She added: "Not being selected isn’t a reflection of the strength of a relationship - many couples continue exploring their connection once they leave the pods."
The couple's off-screen journey
Tech recruiter Jonathan, 32, and wellbeing coach and entrepreneur Sammy, 31, became engaged in the pods, but their dates and proposal were never broadcast. Sammy later asked a producer to give Jonathan her number after they were told they would not continue on the programme, and the pair dated in the real world.
Since leaving the show in August last year, they have taken holidays together, met each other's families, and bought a dog named Poddy in homage to the show. They remain engaged. Sammy also revealed the couple suffered a silent miscarriage in June.
"We lost our baby to a silent miscarriage and honestly, we really struggled," she shared. "Grieving whilst still living on opposite sides of the country was one of the hardest things we've had to face together."
Love endures
Sammy admitted the pair are still navigating the loss, but their love story continues. She added: "We didn't get picked to continue on Love Is Blind. At the time, that felt like the end of our story. Turns out, it was the beginning of the best bit."
"No cameras. No experiment. No guarantees. We just kept choosing each other, and now you're finally in on the secret."
Love Is Blind UK series three is now streaming on Netflix, with a reunion special airing on August 30 at 9pm.
