Laura Smyth has shared a heartfelt message after being eliminated from Celebrity Hunted, saying she hopes her appearance on the show will inspire others who have faced a cancer diagnosis.
Laura, who received a breast cancer diagnosis in 2021, said: "It's been so fun. 'Cause I'm a breast cancer survivor, I hope any woman or man watching this that's at that point of early diagnosis, which feels so scary, is looking at me, running around the countryside with this legend, and saying: 'There is life after cancer.'"
Caught in York
The 44-year-old was eliminated from the Channel 4 show alongside stand-up comedian Jen Brister just minutes into Monday's (August 17) episode, following an overnight stay at a York hotel, reports the Mirror.
The pair believed they were in the clear after checking out of their accommodation, and even opted to purchase ice cream while wandering through a park. However, the hunters were positioned close by and pounced when they least anticipated it.
Fans react to surrender
In contrast to other participants, Jen and Laura made no attempt to flee and simply surrendered. Viewers at home were baffled by how quickly the duo gave up after spotting the hunters.
One X, formerly Twitter, user wrote: "The way Jen and Laura were caught was so confusing. They didn't even attempt to escape when the hunters closed in at the park. Did they... want to get caught? #CelebrityHunted."
Others found the moment amusing, with one fan posting: "Wow Jen Brister and Laura Smyth didn't even try to run did they, were they glued to that bench [laughing emojis] #CelebrityHunted."
