Josh Widdicombe's one-word Strictly verdict after debut

Josh Widdicombe has shared a one-word reaction to Strictly Come Dancing weeks after making his debut on the hit show, which also comes after he explained his social media stance, having been quiet online since taking over as the programme's host.

The hit BBC One dance contest was back on TV screens on Saturday night (October 3) for the second week, with the new series kicking off at the end of last month, when the show attracted a peak audience of five million viewers. The first results of the series then took place on Sunday evening (October 4), resulting in the first elimination of the series.

New Hosts Face First Results Show

It was the first time comedian Josh and his co-hosts, presenter Emma Willis and professional dancer Johannes Radebe, had faced a results show, which comes after they made their debut during the pre-recorded launch show last month, after they were picked to replace previous hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.

It came after they hosted Strictly's Movie Week special, where, similarly to their first live show, the trio began the night by coming out to the dancefloor together following the pros' routine. Emma said: "Hello and welcome to Strictly Come Dancing, and for the first theme of the series, it is Movie Week."

Josh stated after Johannes praised the pros for their opening routine: "It's going to be a blockbuster night, so get comfy as our couples perform routines from some of the most iconic films ever made."

Change Welcomed by Viewers

As was the case with the other live show, Emma and Josh took on Tess' role of introducing the acts and helping the contestants navigate the judges' comments. Johannes continued to rest up in the 'Clauditorium', where he exchanged small talk with the competing couples as the judges determined their scores.

Things changed, however, during Sunday's results show when the show began, Emma and Johannes sat upstairs to chat with the judges, before the elimination began. Josh then swapped upstairs with Johannes to chat with the celebrities who were safe, while Emma remained on the dancefloor to announce the results, and the change was much welcomed by viewers.

One-Word Reaction on Instagram

But having kept a low profile online following his debut on the show, Josh took to Instagram on Monday evening (October 5) to share a clip from Saturday night's show. The video had originally been shared by head judge Shirley Ballas and featured a compilation of her pulling out her mini shoes, much to the annoyance of her fellow judges.

She wrote across the video: "Actual footage of me and my tiny shoes annoying my fellow judges for a full 39 seconds." Resharing the clip with his own followers, Josh simply wrote: "Iconic."

While Josh did use his Instagram platform to reshare a supportive post from Strictly pro Lauren Oakley after the first live show of the series, he recently explained on his Parenting Hell podcast that he doesn't always have the means to use social media. Speaking to friend and co-host Rob Beckett, he said: "I'm back on the brick. You've inspired me, and I'm loving the brick again. It's mad that we've reached this space in time where we have to buy a second phone because we're being dragged into these apps."

Rob joked about Josh's social media use, pointing out that he has "pulled the drawbridge up" on consuming any content post-2003. But Josh replied: "I pulled the drawbridge up at 2008 when I started stand up!"
