Joe Lycett stunned by Richard E Grant's Traitors confession

Comedian Joe Lycett was left in stunned silence after watching back his exchange with Richard E Grant on the opening episode of Celebrity Traitors, during which the actor accidentally revealed he was a Traitor moments after being selected.

The second series of the BBC game show began on October 1, featuring singer-songwriter James Blunt, TV presenter Ross Kemp, and actor Bella Ramsey. Claudia Winkleman returned as host.

Accidental Traitor reveal

Only two celebrities were chosen as Traitors, with Love Island presenter Maya Jama and actor Richard E Grant handed the roles. Yet minutes after being selected, Richard blurted out his position to fellow contestants.

After the selection process, Joe directly asked the actor whether he was a Traitor or a Faithful. Richard instantly replied: "Traitor!" leaving players including Rob Beckett and James Blunt gobsmacked. A stunned Joe pressed again: "You're what?" Richard stood firm, insisting: "Traitor, what's the point of being the game if you're not?"

Lycett's silent reaction

Richard later branded it "the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life," adding in a piece to camera: "I was so thrilled to have been chosen as a Traitor, that in my unguarded excitement, I said, Of course, I'm a Traitor."

Joe, who hosts Channel 4's Live From The Lycett Arms, watched the broadcast episode with guests including Aisling Bea and The Traitors series four champion Stephen Libby. The clip shows him sitting in complete silence while others burst into hysterics.

Audiences will see the moment tonight at 10pm on Channel 4. Joe is also expected to share diary excerpts from Traitors production and answer questions about his encounter with Richard E Grant. Live From The Lycett Arms airs on Channel 4 at 10pm tonight.
