House of Games viewers praise Michael Sheen as new host

Michael Sheen has taken over from Richard Osman as the host of BBC Two's House of Games, and viewers have been quick to share their verdict on his first appearances.

The actor, known for his role as a Faithful in Claudia Winkleman's Celebrity Traitors, stepped into the presenting role this week after Richard Osman signed off from the show last week.

Sheen's Excitement and Nerves

Before the new series began, Sheen said he was "really excited" about the role, adding: "I've been a fan of the show for so long. It's something I watch every day."

He also admitted to feeling nervous about following Osman, saying: "Richard did such an amazing job with it. The thought of anyone taking over from Richard was, you know, something that I would be one of the people complaining about, if it hadn't been me!"

He described the opportunity as "a mixture of excitement and a nervousness", adding: "Once I got over my initial fear, I was incredibly excited and honoured to be asked. Hugely honoured."

Viewer Reactions

Viewers have now thrown their support behind the new host, with one person calling his first appearance "a polished performance". Another said, "Love him. He's a legend."

"Brilliant as expected," another echoed. Someone else wrote: "Well, that went well with Michael Sheen, the new host of #HouseOfGames. I like his enthusiasm and relaxed approach, plus, of course, the Welsh accent."

Yet another wrote: "I agree. Michael Sheen was excellent, and given he had (literally big shoes to fill, he nailed it with his warm and relaxed approach. Well done BBC!"

What Viewers Can Expect

In a Q&A shared ahead of the new series, Sheen spoke about what viewers could look forward to. He said: "I hope that people will feel that the spirit of the show will continue in the same manner. That the sort of warmth, humour, mischief and respect for the games that Richard had, will continue through me."

He added: "But maybe too, people will see the show in a slightly different light, because there's someone different hosting it. And I hope that people will be able to see how much I enjoy doing it and how much I enjoy being with the guests."

"And of course, there's going to be fantastic guests, some of whom are returning and some will be completely new to it. There's lots to look forward to."

House of Games airs weekdays from 6pm on BBC Two.
