A grandmother has sparked fierce debate after exacting petty revenge on fellow holidaymakers who monopolised sunbeds at a Tenerife hotel. Rachael Rogers, appearing on Good Morning Britain, admitted she rarely spends time by the pool, preferring other activities. However, when she tried to settle for a quiet read in the shade at 4pm, she found rows of towels draped over vacant loungers.
Frustrated, she decided to give the absent sunbed hoggers a "little surprise." On TikTok, she fumed: "All week the same people would bag their spot by the pool. So today we decided to give them a little surprise and take them. All you at the Mediterranean Palace in Tenerife, yes, it was us." Her video, showing her lifting towels from unoccupied beds, garnered over 61,000 likes.
Viral Video Sparks Debate
In the video, Rachael wears a vivid pink frock and grins mischievously as she removes towels from sunbeds that had been empty for hours. She wrote over the footage: "Leaving the dirty pool hoggers a little surprise when they come back down," followed by a crying-with-laughter emoji. The clip has ignited a heated discussion about holiday etiquette, with many supporting her actions.
One commenter raged: "What annoys me is they don't even come down to the pool when it opens, they come at 2pm or something, so those sunbeds are unusable all day for others." Another praised her: "May your bed always be soft and your beer cold," calling her a legend for doing what staff should.
Support and Criticism
A third supporter wrote: "It's first come, first served, not first reserve, first gets, so well done lol. It's annoying when you wanna spend some time at the pool in the morning before starting your day and going out and doing something, but your chair is somewhere really far where you cannot keep an eye out for your belongings."
However, not everyone sided with her. Critics dismissed her as "petty," arguing there were "plenty of other beds" available. One seethed: "What a way to spend your holiday." The incident highlights growing frustration with sunbed reservation practices, where towels are placed at dawn to claim spots, often left unused for hours while owners enjoy breakfast or leave the hotel premises.
