Gemma Collins Overwhelmed by I'm A Celeb Conditions
Gemma Collins, the former Towie star, vowed to redeem herself on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!: South Africa after quitting the Australian jungle version after just three days. However, the camp's austere living conditions are proving to be a significant challenge for the reality TV personality.
Emotional Breakdown in the Jungle
In Wednesday's episode, Gemma broke down in tears in front of fellow contestant Adam Thomas, sobbing, "I don't think I can take it." Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, she described it as "a difficult day and I don't know why," adding that she felt close to Adam and needed to let her emotions out.
Adam attempted to comfort her, reminding her they were on "the long stretch now," but Gemma expressed her struggle with the lack of everyday luxuries. She lamented, "I can't wash properly. I can't have anything nice. I've got to wash up every five minutes." The pair shared a moment of laughter as Gemma admitted, "I'm not used to this. I'm just so not used to this."
Clash with Sinitta Over Career
The tension escalated when Savannah Scrub joined the main camp, leading to a heated exchange between Gemma and singer Sinitta. Sinitta, 62, questioned Gemma's casting in the musical Chicago in 2022, where Gemma was set to play Matron "Mama" Morton before pulling out due to an injury.
Sinitta provocatively called the casting a "joke announcement," comparing Gemma to US socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor and saying, "You don't really do anything, but you make a great entrance and make everybody laugh." Gemma defended herself, stating, "I auditioned for it fair and square. Did all the training and everything, had a voice coach."
Fellow campmates, comedian Seann Walsh and former jungle queen Scarlett Moffatt, watched in visible shock, with Seann putting his head in his hands and Scarlett cringing in her hammock. Gemma later told the camera, "I'm not a joke, darling. I am not a joke. I have done everything in my life on my own."
Previous Complaints and Redemption Quest
This isn't the first time Gemma has voiced her displeasure with the camp conditions. She previously demanded someone "call her agent" and slammed the environment as "rancid" and "hell," insisting the conditions "were not right." Her emotional struggles highlight the intense pressure of the reality show, as she seeks to prove her resilience after her early exit from the Australian version.
The episode underscores the psychological and physical demands of I'm A Celeb, with Gemma's tears and conflicts offering a raw glimpse into the challenges faced by celebrities in the jungle. Her journey continues to captivate viewers as she navigates both personal vulnerabilities and interpersonal tensions.
