Four in a Bed viewers were left furious after Friday's payment day ended with two teams tied on payments, yet only one was declared the winner. The Channel 4 show's new series returned, but the September 25 episode sparked outrage among fans.
The competition featured Vicky and Anne-Marie hosting at their historic pub in Lincolnshire, Violet and Pati at their self-catering apartments in Boston, Harvey and Roisin's manor hotel in Gwynedd, and Sarah and Paul's Derbyshire glampsite.
Joint winners controversy
On payment day, the teams reunited around the table, with tears and clashes as they questioned each other's low scores. In the end, two teams received the same payment result, but only one took home the plaque.
Sarah and Paul's 3Trees Glamping finished in fourth place after an earlier clash over cleaning fees. Paul admitted: “We're absolutely gutted where we finished in the competition, this result isn't going to hold us back. I think our business will just grow and grow.”
Roisin and Harvey came in third, saying they were “very happy” with the result. Harvey added: “I'd say we feel like winners with the feedback we received from everyone, it's been great being a part of the competition.”
Viewers react to the result
Vicky and Anne-Marie, along with Violet and Pati, had taken home the same payments, but the narrator revealed: “With payment percentages tied, Escape Town takes home the plaque as their overall feedback scores were higher.”
“It feels amazing to win,” owners Violet and Pati said. “We have to look into some pay increases now!” They added: “I'm excited to see what the future brings, onwards and upwards!”
Meanwhile, Vicky and Anne-Marie said: “We'd have loved to be first but second is absolutely amazing. It means everything to us.” However, viewers were disgruntled that both teams weren't crowned winners.
One person fumed: “#fourinabed it's ridiculous that there wasn't two winners. They both got 100%. Disgraceful.” Another said: “Since when has that been a thing, are they cutting down plaque costs.”
“Why have they stopped sharing the first prize. Don't like this new system,” another said. Someone else said: “The prices on #FourInABed these days are a joke.” Yet another wrote: “Should've been joint winners as they both got 100%. Game players, underpaid everybody.”
Another viewer agreed, writing: “So weird. They used to do joint winners before…” Another wrote: “Scoring in these competitions is very random and seems unfair.” One called the competition “dramatic,” as someone else echoed: “What makes me laugh with #FourInABed they apply to go on yet when they get criticism they don't like to hear it? So why apply? Everyone knows what the show is about!!”
