Emmerdale actress Olivia Bromley has spoken emotionally about her exit from the ITV soap after her character Dawn Taylor died. The 30-year-old star fought back tears in a farewell video alongside co-star Ned Porteous, who plays Joe Tate.
Dawn's tragic death
Dawn died in Sunday's episode, moments after giving birth to a baby boy. A sudden haemorrhage caused her heart to fail, following a catastrophic explosion at her wedding marquee to Joe. Jimmy King's car had ploughed into the marquee, triggering the blast, and both Joe and Dawn were rushed to hospital. As a consequence of the explosion, Dawn went into labour prematurely.
An emotional farewell
In the video released by Emmerdale, Ned, 32, said: "Liv, it's very sad to see you go", with an emotional Olivia appearing to fight back tears as she replied: "Aww!" Ned continued: "I've really enjoyed working with you all over this time."
With a moved Olivia responding: "Aww, same, same, same, thank you", Ned added: "You've played an amazing character, it's been a real joy. Have you got any last words?"
Olivia reflected: "Yeah, well, I've just absolutely loved playing Dawn. She's grown up as a character. I mean, who would have thought she came in, you know, with, like, this drug problem, and she was homeless, and she ended up in the big house [Home Farm]. I have to say, I'm just going to miss everybody, everybody here so much, but also, thank you all so much for watching and supporting us."
What's next for Joe
She added: "And keep watching, because there's going to be some big drama coming for this one [Ned, who plays Joe], now. The repercussions are going to be pretty big." Ned backed up the forthcoming storyline, teasing: "Oh yeah, he's not going to take this well. So tune in!"
Long-standing viewers will remember that Dawn first arrived in the village in 2018. Her father, Will Taylor, portrayed by Dean Andrews, was also written out of the ITV soap in 2024. Emmerdale continues on weeknights at 8pm on ITV and ITVX.
