Louise Jameson has revealed that her Emmerdale character, Mary Goskirk, is set to become embroiled in a big storyline after a quieter period in the village.
Speaking to Digital Spy at the Inside Soap awards, the actress teased: 'All I can tell you is that they've asked for a week's holiday back at Christmas – so I've definitely got something coming up!'
A dramatic year ahead
Jameson hinted at major developments for Mary, saying: 'There's a pretty dramatic year coming up, but I'm under strict instructions not to say any more, it wouldn't have been what I'd have written for her at all, and I'm learning a lot through the little clues that they've given me. I've had to do some research on it, so watch this space!'
The actress also suggested that the upcoming storyline will involve Mary's family rallying around her, explaining: 'In a way, a story for one of us is a story for all of us. That's what our family – our little bubble – represents: we've got three kids, Mary's got a daughter and a son-in-law and I think that's why she was so furious to be thrown out, I was thrown out of the house! She just didn't feel part of the unit any more, but all that's changed and we're all back friendly again, so it's definitely going to be a family story.'
Mary's recent history
Mary arrived in Emmerdale in 2022 as a former journalist and mother of Rhona Goskirk, with whom she initially had a fractious relationship. She later came out as gay to Kim Tate and began dating, but became a victim of scam artist Faye Helders, who stole money from her, assaulted her, and leaked intimate photos.
After a love triangle with Suzy Merton and Vanessa Woodfield, Mary took a break from the village following Suzy's death. She returned during her family's ordeal at the hands of criminals Celia Daniels and Ray Walters, which Rhona tried to shield her from.
Jameson's future on the show
Jameson confirmed to The Mirror earlier this year that she has signed another contract for a further year on the show, saying: 'I'm really thrilled. It's so corny to say this, but I feel like it's some sort of gift from the universe to me, and that's because I'm not in every day, I have a regular wage, it's high profile, the company is extraordinary, Zoe Henry who plays daughter is such a joy to be around, it couldn't be better.'
She added: 'The only downside is that it's a five-hour commute, I have to drive up from Kent, but that's a small price to pay for such a wonderful job – I spend half time out on the Yorkshire moors!'
