Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) is now facing the possibility of spending years in prison after being charged with the murder of Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) in Emmerdale. However, as viewers are aware, Charity is covering for someone else.
Earlier this week, Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) walked in on Charity and Dr Todd's final showdown, during which Charity branded the doctor a rapist. After the shock revelation, Sarah gave her a shove, and Todd hit her head on the way down. It didn't take long for them to realise that Todd had stopped breathing, and despite Sarah's resuscitation efforts, there was nothing they could do to bring her round.
Charity's risky confession
With Todd dead, Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) having walked in on the scene, and Sarah panicking, Charity took a huge risk and told the police that she had killed Todd. Serena helped them figure out a cover story before fleeing out the back door, leaving them to face the music in tonight's episode.
The stakes were high as both Sarah and Charity were taken in for questioning – Charity having been charged with murder and Sarah as a witness. Though they stuck to the story that Charity had pushed Todd away in self-defence, the detectives clearly weren't buying it.
Detectives suspect revenge
DS Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) left Charity horrified when she revealed her theory that Charity had killed Todd in revenge because the investigation into her rape hadn't gone the way she'd hoped. As Charity grew more tired, hungry and frustrated, she demanded to know when her interrogation would be over, and felt deflated when DS Ramsden pointed out that they had a long way to go if they wanted to rule out a revenge killing.
With Charity sticking to her story to protect Sarah, could she be risking spending the rest of her life behind bars?
