Actress Caroline Harding appeared in Emmerdale this week as a corrupt court judge, but fans may recognise her as the wife of a famous Coronation Street star. Vinny Dingle, played by Bradley Johnson, faced court this week to learn his fate after causing the car crash that killed Jimmy King (Nick Miles) and Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley).
Vinny's 10-Year Sentence
During Monday's (October 12) episode, now streaming on ITVX, the judge sentenced Vinny to 10 years in prison. She said: "You are charged and have pleaded guilty to one count of causing death by dangerous driving. This is a most unfortunate incident. I don't know what it takes for people to realise that their actions have consequences. No text or phone call is more important than a life."
The judge continued: "Taking this into account, I feel it is incumbent upon myself to make an example of you in the hope that it will deter others from behaving in such a reckless manner. I therefore impose a 10-year sentence of imprisonment."
Fans Spot Familiar Face
As the village reeled from the verdict, it emerged that the judge had been bribed, with evidence pointing to Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). Many soap fans were distracted by actress Caroline Harding, who played the dodgy judge. One person wrote on Reddit: "I've seen that judge somewhere before, I'm sure of it." Another added: "I have definitely seen her before too. Maybe on a soap? She looks familiar!"
Caroline is no stranger to soap, having appeared in Emmerdale, Coronation Street, and EastEnders. She notably played Doctor Howarth in Corrie in 2020, the specialist physician who treated Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and Steve McDonald's (Simon Gregson) young son Oliver, who later died from mitochondrial disease.
Married to Chris Gascoyne
Caroline is married to fellow soap star Chris Gascoyne, known for playing Peter Barlow in Corrie. The couple married in 2002 and have two children. One fan wrote on a Facebook fan page: "Omg the judge was Caroling Harding, Chris Gascoyne's wife!" Another added: "Oh yeah, I thought it was her!"
