Emmerdale aired another heartbreaking death on Sunday as Dawn Taylor died from complications after giving birth to a baby boy. The village has been reeling from two devastating losses in quick succession, with Jimmy King having met a tragic end last week after his car ploughed into Joe Tate and Dawn Taylor's wedding marquee. The drama escalated when the marquee subsequently exploded, putting even more lives at risk.
Dawn's Labour and Final Moments
On Friday, viewers learnt that both Joe and Dawn had survived the blast, with the pair rushed to hospital in the aftermath. As a direct consequence of the explosion and crash, Dawn went into labour earlier than expected, giving birth to a baby boy.
In Sunday's episode, Dawn and Joe marvelled over their newborn while making plans for their future together. When a midwife asked to examine Dawn, Joe requested just five more minutes alone with their son. The couple then settled back at Dawn's hospital bed, exchanging declarations of love and even reciting wedding vows to one another after their special day had been so cruelly cut short.
Joe's Collapse and Dawn's Death
Joe then left to get Dawn some water, with neither of them aware that she was slowly haemorrhaging. After fetching the water, Joe collapsed but upon regaining consciousness, chose to keep the episode from medical staff. Returning to Dawn's room, he was devastated to discover she had passed away, and despite frantic efforts from medical professionals to revive her, it proved futile. Dawn's death was attributed to a haemorrhage, which had ultimately caused her heart to stop.
Just as Joe received the crushing blow of devastating news, Kim Tate and Graham Foster arrived on the scene, completely unaware of what had unfolded. Moments later, Billy Fletcher appeared looking to speak with Dawn, only for Graham to send him away and break the news of her passing.
Fans Fear a Third Death
As word spread back through the village and residents mourned yet another tragic loss, some soap fans are growing anxious that a third death could be looming on the horizon. Viewers are fearful that given Joe's collapse prior to Dawn's death, and his failure to inform any medical professional about his condition, his injuries could prove far more severe than initially believed.
Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: "Joe needs to get checked over. He also isn't ok #Emmerdale!" with another soap watcher adding: "if Joe dies i will not be watching anymore @emmerdale #emmerdale." A different account wrote: "So you're telling me joe was just passed out in the middle of the hospital corridor and no one saw him #emmerdale." While another fan added: "When Joe first arrived at hospital did they claim he had a serious head injury? Are the doctors/nurses just ignoring that now? #Emmerdale!"
However, a different soap watcher insisted: "They won't kill off Joe. Not when they can get months worth of 'revenge on Ruby and Caleb' storylines out of it. #Emmerdale." Emmerdale airs weekdays at 8pm on ITV and ITVX.
