Emmerdale star Emma Atkins has spoken out about the imminent return of her character Charity Dingle's rival Sadie King, played by Patsy Kensit, who is set to reprise her role after a 20-year absence.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk and other media, Atkins smiled when asked how she felt about Kensit's soap comeback.
“Brilliant! Really excited. I've seen her a few times now but I've not worked with her yet. I think we do the scenes where she arrives this week in the village and she's awesome as always. And the fun that we had all that time ago, they're going to kind of re-enact a few moments that were there in the past. A lot of the audience who remember those storylines will be probably pleased to see again. It's always a good dynamic with Charity and Sadie. I don't know whether I'll be working with her much, but I welcome her back with open arms. She's awesome,” she said.
Sadie King's History in the Village
The character initially appeared in the village in 2004 as Jimmy King's (played by Nick Miles) wife, though their union proved short-lived. Sadie subsequently embarked on relationships with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Jimmy's brother Matthew (Matt Healy). She ultimately met her match in Cain, who double crossed her and callously abandoned her to her fate.
During her tenure on Emmerdale, she was nominated for Sexiest Female and Soap B**h Of The Year. Since leaving, she has starred in BBC medical drama Holby City and in 2023, she appeared in rival soap EastEnders as Emma Harding, the mother of Lola Pearce.
Producer Hints at Shocking Return
Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw hinted at some details of Sadie's comeback earlier this year, saying: “It's Sadie King. I feel like, of course she's got an agenda... What I can say is the reason that Sadie comes back and the secret she comes back with is gonna be absolutely shocking. And whether all is quite as it seems, we shall see as the story progresses, but it's gonna be pretty big and pretty shocking.”
“We've definitely tried to bring Sadie back every bit in a dramatic way as she arrived last time. So, I think her arrival will be every bit as amazing and brilliant as the first time around. I think probably the most shocking thing is definitely the reason that brings her back. It's undoubtedly one of the biggest secrets we've ever had within the King family, and it's gonna be pretty explosive,” Shaw added.
