Strictly Come Dancing 2026 contestant Delta Goodrem has revealed that she ‘can’t move’ following her brutal first BBC training session. The 41-year-old Australian singer, who represented her country at Eurovision in May, shared the update on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday (August 15).
First Training Session
“I can’t move today… I had my very first day yesterday. Obviously, there was a lot of dancing, so it was a baptism of fire, a lot of shock for the body, so I’m slow moving today,” she said in an interview with new Strictly host Emma Willis, who is presenting the programme with Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe.
Delta, who finished 4th in Eurovision with 287 points for her song Eclipse, admitted that her performance background won't be much of an advantage. “I love dancing, but I don’t get to dance. It’s never been my role. My music doesn’t sit in the space where I do a lot of choreography,” she explained.
No Ballroom Experience
“I don’t do a lot of dancing, and I don’t think people associate me with dance… I’ve never done ballroom. I didn’t even know there was a difference between Latin and ballroom until yesterday,” she added.
Delta became a global star when her debut album Innocent Eye became one of the highest-selling albums in Australian history, after signing her first record deal at 15. She has five Number 1 albums, nine Number 1 singles, and has sold nine million albums worldwide. She spent nine seasons as a coach on The Voice Australia and appeared as Nina Tucker on Neighbours from 2002 to 2005.
Partner and Show Details
During a recent appearance on Channel 4's Sunday Lunch, Delta noted she hasn't been assigned a pro dance partner yet. Strictly recently revealed five new professional dancers joining the show: Aleksandra Isaeva, Cristian Priori, Lethabo Monametsi, Maddie Ingoldsby and Mark Karmalita. Karen Hauer, Nadiya Bychkova, Luba Mushtuk, Michelle Tsiakkas and Gorka Marquez left the series in recent months.
“I think in a couple of weeks, so it's still like a week or so away when we start the process. I'm excited, nervous, all those kinds of things,” Delta said. Asked if she saw herself as a potential winner, she stated: “I am going to go in and give my very best that I possibly can. I have no expectations or awareness of what level of dancing.”
