Households are being advised to clean their baths with washing up liquid, according to bathroom experts Bathroom Supastore. The advice comes as many may overlook the need for regular bath cleaning, despite it being filled with soapy water regularly.
Dirt and grime can accumulate around drains and taps, settle into scratches, and leave residue when bath water doesn't drain quickly. While supermarkets offer various sprays, creams, and disinfectants, these may contain harsh chemicals. The experts suggest a simpler, gentler approach.
Why avoid bleach?
Bathroom Supastore warns against using bleach, as it can stain and damage acrylic baths in particular. They recommend using a sponge or soft cloth, ideally microfiber, to avoid scratching the surface. The cleaning solution should be gentle and free of any bleach, so reading labels on big brand sprays is essential.
The recommended cleaning method
The experts advise using washing up liquid and warm water to create a bubbly solution, which effectively removes grease and grime without excessive effort. This should be done as soon as the water has drained from the tub, while the bath is still warm, to help lift grease.
For those with matte black baths, even washing up liquid may be too abrasive. Bathroom Supastore adds that harsh cleaning products can chip or damage the coating, recommending only water and a soft cloth for this finish.
Washing up liquid is also effective on shower screens and in microwaves, demonstrating its versatility beyond bath cleaning.
