Chelsea Edge, who appeared in the BBC's Death in Paradise, has been cast in Emmerdale as DS Ramsden, a detective who arrives to investigate the death of Dr Caitlin Todd.
New detective in the village
DS Ramsden made her first appearance in Tuesday's (August 11) episode, beginning the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dr Todd's death. The character is portrayed by Chelsea Edge, who played Sophie Chambers, the girlfriend of DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little), in Death in Paradise.
In the detective drama, Sophie arrived as a backpacker before starting a relationship with DI Neville. The storyline took a dramatic turn when Sophie implicated Neville in the death of criminologist David Cartwright (Patrick Kennedy). Chelsea appeared in seven episodes of the show between 2022 and 2023.
Charity and Sarah's ordeal
Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) has faced a difficult period on the ITV soap. Earlier this year, she was sexually assaulted by Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), who then blackmailed her about the true parentage of Leyla Sugden. Dr Todd left the village for a post in Sheffield, but this week she died accidentally at the hands of Charity's granddaughter Sarah (Katie Hill) during a confrontation.
Charity and Sarah enlisted newcomer Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) to help them plan how to approach the police. However, DS Ramsden is unconvinced that Charity and Sarah are telling the whole truth and is determined to uncover what really happened.
Other roles and future episodes
Chelsea's previous television work includes the Sky comedy Brassic alongside Michelle Keegan, 2020's I Hate Suzie, and last year's BBC drama Reunion.
Discussing her Death in Paradise character, Sophie, Chelsea said: "When you go on holiday you have a little crush and you know it's not going to last forever. But I think she has such a soft spot for him and coming away from it - she's trying to be a realist - coming back, she's like, 'How have I left this incredible island and this guy I really like.' She doesn't want to let it go."
