Dakota Mortensen has spoken out after it was announced that his ex-partner, Taylor Frankie Paul, will not face additional domestic violence charges. The pair, stars of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, have been involved in a series of legal disputes following an altercation in February.
Mortensen, 33, took to Instagram on Sunday to say he has “taken a step back and had time away from the chaos.” He stated that his focus is now on his two-year-old son, Ever, and creating a stable environment for him. He expressed regret for not leaving a “difficult cycle” sooner and apologised to those he has hurt.
The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges against either party, citing insufficient evidence. Some alleged misdemeanours occurred more than three years ago, outside the legal time frame. New charges against Paul could have violated her probation from a 2023 dispute, which runs until August.
Mortensen criticised the public portrayal of the situation, saying it “does not reflect the full context.” He has chosen to step away from the spotlight to focus on his family and healing. Both parties have filed protective orders against each other, with a court hearing scheduled for 30 April to examine 11 incidents and revisit custody arrangements.
At a recent hearing, a judge temporarily granted Mortensen’s protective order, restricting Paul to supervised visits with their son. The couple’s turbulent relationship has been a central theme on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which premiered in 2024.
