Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has seemingly confirmed that Kit Green is the father of Bethany Platt's unborn child, putting an end to fan speculation about a possible paternity twist.
The actress, who is from Blackpool, is at the centre of another dramatic storyline in the ITV soap, which is filmed in Salford. During Tuesday's (October 13) episode, her character discovered she was pregnant with her mum Sarah Platt's ex's baby.
Bethany's pregnancy revealed
Bethany had earlier encouraged Kit Green to tell her mum, his former partner, the truth about his diagnosis before she appeared in court charged with the murder of Theo Silverton, but he refused. Later, in the café, her new love interest, Ryan Connor, praised her for always putting her family first, leaving Bethany having to mask her guilt over her one-night stand with Kit.
Bethany then headed to see Sarah with Todd Grimshaw, where the latter accidentally let slip about Kit's cancer, as she spoke of her upset at her ex not being willing to help her get off a possible murder charge. During the visit, Bethany appeared to suffer a funny turn, with the pressure of her mum's imprisonment and her request for her to look after her little brother, Harry, seemingly getting too much.
However, later that evening, having gotten into an argument with Kit, which scuppered her planned date with Ryan, Bethany was seen leaving the bathroom holding a pregnancy test. Sitting on the sofa, she spoke to Ryan on the phone as she looked at the result, quietly horrified to discover that she was pregnant.
Actress speaks on shock and decision
"She's obviously in shock," Lucy said of Bethany's reaction. "I think she kind of had a little idea that she potentially was pregnant, but when it's confirmed that she's pregnant, I think she's shocked and devastated because it's not a situation that she wants to be in. Obviously, she's got to make a decision whether she goes ahead with it or whether she gets a termination, and that's quite traumatic in itself. So she's left with a big decision now."
On Bethany sleeping with Kit, Lucy admitted: "I don't actually know what she was thinking. I think they both were in quite a bad place at the time. They were obviously in the flat together. They were trying to deal with a lot of stuff together and I think it was just one of those things that happened. It just happened." She added, "It was a one-night mistake, I don't think she has any feelings for him at all in that way."
Father confirmed and future implications
When suggested it's not going to end well, Lucy quipped: "No, it's not going to end well, because it's her mum's ex-boyfriend's baby!" confirming Kit as the father after some fans wondered if they'd be led to believe Kit or Bethany's new love interest, Ryan Connor, could be the father.
And it doesn't sound as though Sarah will be finding out any time soon, as she faces the prospect of spending life behind bars for Theo's murder, which she admitted to, in self-defence, earlier this year. "I think right now it's deny, deny, deny," Lucy shared. "Coming clean is not an option, especially if she wants to keep a relationship with her mum, because her mum would have the right to never speak to either of them again. I mean, the whole family would, it's not even just Sarah. So she's stuck in an impossible position right now."
As for whether she'd like to see Bethany as a mum, Lucy, a mum-of-two herself, added: "I think Bethany would make a really good mum, she's grown up a lot and this would definitely make her more responsible, like it changes everyone. And I'd get to hold a newborn baby again but give it back, so that would be nice, I'd like it."
