Coronation Street fans have said something was 'missing' from Nina Lucas' emotional exit from Weatherfield after six and a half years. The niece of cobbles legend Roy Cropper arrived on-screen in the ITV soap, which is filmed in Salford, in 2019. Nina was taken in by her uncle after her ill father, Richard Lucas, died.
It didn't take long for Nina, known for her gothic look, to become a popular character, leading to her being involved in one of the long-running show's biggest storylines. In 2021, a hard-hitting hate crime storyline, which claimed the life of Nina's boyfriend, Seb Franklin, resulted in Mollie picking up the National Television Award for Serial Drama Performance.
Nina's farewell scenes
After almost seven years in the role, it was recently announced that Mollie would be bowing out of the long-running programme so she could make her stage debut as Clarice Starling in the UK and Ireland tour of The Silence of the Lambs. During a rare Sunday evening edition of Corrie (August 30), Nina was seen leaving Weatherfield, having decided to move to Whitby to start a dream job at an art gallery.
Having invited her nearest and dearest to the Rovers for some leaving drinks, ahead of her departure, Nina was seen sitting at the memorial garden for her boyfriend Seb, where she was seen listening to the same song they used to listen to together. Wanting to say goodbye, Seb's mum, Abi Webster, found Nina, and in an emotional moment between the two women, Nina tried to apologise for being the one who survived the attack that claimed Abi's son's life and not him. But Abi wasn't having it, and Nina went on to promise to never forget Seb, as she and Abi said a tearful farewell.
Fans react to the exit
The scenes left Corrie fans emotional. @connorsdingle said: "I've been saying we better get a final scene with nina and abi!! sobbing this is so perfect #corrie." @gertieperkins8 commented: "This little scene in the garden was absolutely gorgeous. I’m so glad they acknowledged Nina & Seb’s history and her bond with Abi. Others, however, couldn't help but notice some were missing from Nina's goodbyes. @TheConnorSwains posted: "No #Swarla this morning and no Carla for Nina’s farewell! Weird choice #Corrie." @swainstemult shared: "I'm sorry Carla should've been there she loves that girl!!" @LadyReignFC typed: "Really sucks Carla & Amy weren't there for Nina's farewell. I get it was probably a scheduling issue but they could've at least mentioned them or shown us a pic when she scrolling on her phone but anyway going to miss Nina & I hope she comes back in a couple of years #corrie." @Izzy1728047 echoed: "Amy and carla not being there to say goodbye to Nina is a very weird choice #Corrie #Swarla." @alohaimarie added: "I'm still so gutted we didnt get carla and nina goodbye but this was such a nice sendoff for her."
