Coronation Street fans have declared 'we're so back' as they were left distracted from Betsy Swain's major decision thanks to her mums, Lisa and Carla Connor-Swain. The two women were left heartbroken when Betsy had a stroke in scenes aired over the summer. The teen was found on the kitchen floor of No.6 Coronation Street in July by Ryan Connor and was rushed to hospital.
Betsy's Stroke and Recovery
Betsy's condition appeared to stabilise before she had a second stroke, both of which were confirmed to have been caused by a blood clot, the result of neck artery damage from a temporary loss of circulation. When doctors spoke to Betsy about the cause, the teen had to explain to her mum, Lisa Connor-Swain, that her boyfriend, Dylan Wilson, had strangled her during consensual sex, despite both believing the pressure applied was minimal.
To ensure the narrative's medical accuracy and raise critical awareness of the risks associated with strangulation, the soap has worked closely with the Institute for Addressing Strangulation (IFAS), The Stroke Association and Safeline. Their experts reviewed scripts and met directly with the production team and actors to help ensure this important storyline was portrayed responsibly.
Fans React to Swarla Scenes
Since the initial stroke scenes, Betsy has been seen starting her recovery, first in hospital and now back at home on the Street. Last week, after a few weeks' absence from screens, with the help of her physiotherapist, Betsy was seen standing up for the first time since her stroke and attempted to take steps, leaving Lisa emotional. As the session took place, Carla arrived and was also delighted by the progress.
After suffering a setback during her first outing since her stroke to the Bistro last week, during Thursday's (September 10) edition of Corrie, she was seen heading to the Rovers, where she and Carla spent some time looking at the college course she recently suggested to Betsy, which resulted in a heart-to-heart between the pair.
Betsy's Decision and Fan Praise
After making amends with Lauren Bolton following the Bistro incident, Dylan arrived in the pub and Betsy took the chance to speak to him. Despite Lisa wanting to march over and put a stop to it, Carla pulled her back and Betsy was able to tell Dylan she thought they would be better off as friends.
Despite the emotional scenes, Corrie fans were distracted by a cosy-looking Carla and Lisa following their recent absence as a wedded duo from the show. @TheConnorSwains declared: "Oh we’re SO back! #Swarla #Corrie." @WayhaughtLunar said: "We have been so fed today! Swarla are back baby!! #Swarla #Corrie."
@Emmmmmer noted: "Sorry but you can’t tell me these two were more in love at their wedding than they were in today’s episode. WTF!! #swarla." @EmmaHorsfa28434 echoed: "#swarla today Lisa and Carla were more in love than ever even at the wedding." @Izzy1728047 added: "I’ve said it before but the only person who can calm, support & reassure Lisa, is Carla. This scene is a perfect example of that. Look in the background, the way Carla sits her down, holds her. It’s lovely, what an amazing couple #Swarla."
