Coronation Street fans are convinced the wrong person will be blamed for Eva Price's attack. The Rovers Return landlady was left for dead during Thursday's (September 24) episode of the soap opera after suffering a horror fall at the hands of an unexpected Weatherfield resident.
Poorly Eva was left alone at work after deciding to close up early. She's been battling with a cold and had little help to rely on as her partner Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) had taken her daughter Susie Price (Aurora Bradshaw) away for an audition in London. After struggling to cope behind the bar, Eva decided that it was best to get some rest rather than battling through the evening shift alone.
Sam Blakeman's Accidental Fall
Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) offered to help Eva tidy away the empties and Eva went down to the cellar to grab some boxes of crisps. As she completed the last of her work duties for the day, there was an unexpected visitor at the pub as Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) sneaked in to look for his missing phone.
Struggling with his mental health, Sam has been fixated on the device and wanted it back as quickly as possible, much to the frustration of his dad Nick Tilsley (Ben Price). Eva gently asked what Sam was doing in the pub and the youngster panicked and pushed past her, accidentally causing her to fall down the cellar stairs.
Fan Reactions and Suspicions
Taking to Reddit, one suspicious fan guessed: "I'm disappointed that the finger is gonna be pointed at him for what happened to Eva." A second user added: "Eva could forget Sam pushed her (or be comatose I guess) and they'll all think Carl did it." Another fan posted on X: "I hope Carl doesn't get blamed for this #Corrie."
Corrie fans will be aware that Carl isn't the most liked person on the Street after sparking an affair with his brother Kevin Webster's (Michael Le Vell) wife Abi Webster (Sally Carman).
Police Questioning and Next Steps
Spoilers for Friday's (September 25) episode have revealed that Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) is first to find Eva after the incident, although she becomes confused and delays getting her the help she needs. Later, barmaid Shuttleworth (Jodie Pregner) comes to the rescue and calls an ambulance, with shockwaves sent through the Street as everyone speculates about whether Eva fell or was pushed.
Ben keeps vigil at Eva's hospital bedside after she was attacked and left fighting for her life, while PC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) tries to piece together exactly what happened. He questions Debbie and Carl about Eva's injuries, with Carl claiming that he helped Eva tidy up because she wasn't feeling well before heading home himself. However, when Debbie announces that she plans to buy the patient some flowers, Carl produces a wallet stuffed with cash.
Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) and Kevin are immediately suspicious, wondering whether Carl could have robbed the pub before accidentally pushing Eva down the stairs. The police soon take Carl in for questioning over the attack. He insists that he had nothing to do with what happened to Eva, but the pressure begins to mount.
