Coronation Street return 'sealed' for cobbles icon as new Speed Daal owner 'unveiled'
Corrie fans predict Amber Kalirai as new Speed Daal owner

Coronation Street fans believe they've figured out who the new owner of Speed Daal could be, with many predicting the return of Amber Kalirai, daughter of Dev Alahan.

Speed Daal's history and current situation

The restaurant has been a beloved fixture for Weatherfield locals for years, first opening its doors in 2018 when it was established by Zeedan Nazir (Qasim Akhtar). Ever since, a host of characters have flocked to the curry house to sample its Pakistani street food and traditional dishes.

A number of characters have also taken the helm of the restaurant over the years, including Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) and Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent). At present, Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) serves as co-owner alongside Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), who stepped in after her grandmother Yasmeen departed the street in 2025.

Fans speculate on the new owner

In recent episodes, however, soap newcomer Idris Nazir (Junade Khan) has had his eye on cousin Alya's business, Speed Daal, after Alya revealed she was eager to sell, reports the Daily Star. Now, fans are convinced the new owner won't be Idris, but rather a familiar face from the cobbles.

On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers are speculating it could be Amber Kalirai (Nikki Patel), the daughter of Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin). "Wouldn't it be interesting if the new co-owner of Speed Daal was Dev's daughter Amber," wrote one fan. Another responded: "Yes, I liked Amber. Clever funny!" A third concurred: "Yes 100% she was great."

Amber's history on the cobbles

Fans will remember that Amber was Dev's daughter, born from an affair he had with one of his shop employees. She made her first appearance on November 9, 2005 when her mother Ravinder (Mina Anwar) was hospitalised and Dev and Sunita cared for her.

At the time, Dev was reluctant to have Amber in his life as he was married to Sunita and she represented a constant reminder of his infidelity, but he eventually grew fond of her and she moved in with him after Ravinder relocated to Finland with her partner.

Amber departed the Cobbles to attend university in London, but came back in 2011 and returned to live with Dev and Sunita. She developed a close friendship with Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) - and during a boozy evening out, Amber kissed Sophie, which sparked romantic feelings in Sophie.

Tensions began to emerge between Amber and Sunita, creating friction between her and Dev, with Sunita becoming frustrated with Dev for continuously taking his daughter's side. Amber subsequently departed the street in 2012 to return to London and hasn't appeared on the cobbles since.

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
