Richard E Grant's future on The Celebrity Traitors is looking uncertain as the first roundtable of the series approaches. The 69-year-old actor made a blunder in the opening episode when he admitted to being a Traitor in front of several cast members, and has since been trying to convince the other celebrities he was playing mind games.
Traitors' Turret tensions
Richard was chosen to become one of Claudia Winkleman's Traitors alongside Love Island presenter Maya Jama. The pair later recruited comedian James Acaster as they work together to eliminate the Faithfuls without being detected. During a secret meeting in the Traitors' Turret, Maya told Richard she would help deflect any heat coming his way.
However, former player Fiona Hughes, who was the first-ever Secret Traitor in series four, has warned Maya to be cautious. Hughes said: "I adore Maya. She is bright, she's beautiful and she's got everything going for her but I think she needs to be careful not to defend Richard too much otherwise he could take her down, not that he'd want to, but that's the way of the game."
Roundtable verdict
The second episode, aired on Friday (October 2), ended on a cliffhanger as the first roundtable was about to begin. Viewers will find out tonight if Richard has convinced the group he is not a Traitor.
Hughes added: "I'd love Richard to get away with it but his defence wasn't brilliant. I think if he said 'look I was just so excited to be here, it was a boob and it backfired on me' but he didn't. He has got some allies in there but I think if he gets away with it it'll be a miracle. I don't feel good about it. He is such a big personality but sometimes being one of the really well known ones isn't going to work in your favour."
The Celebrity Traitors continues tonight (Thursday, October 8) at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
